Corrections Policy

StoryShift.uk is committed to accuracy, fairness and transparency in all our editorial output. We recognise that errors can occur, and we take full responsibility for correcting them promptly and clearly. This policy sets out how we handle corrections, updates and clarifications, and how readers can report inaccuracies.

Our commitment to correction

When we publish a mistake, we correct it as quickly as possible and explain what has been changed. We do not delete or alter articles without leaving a visible record of the correction. Our aim is to maintain the trust of our readers by being open about our errors and the steps we take to rectify them.

How to report an inaccuracy

If you believe an article on StoryShift.uk contains a factual error, please contact us at corrections@storyshift.uk. To help us process your report efficiently, please include:

  • The full URL (web address) of the article in question
  • A clear description of the alleged error and what you believe the correct information should be
  • Your source or evidence for the correct information, where possible
  • Your name and a contact email address (optional but helpful for follow-up)

You may also use our general contact form at /about-us/contact/ if you prefer, but reports sent to corrections@storyshift.uk will be handled most quickly.

How we handle reports

All correction reports are reviewed by our Standards & Fact-Checking Desk, led by Kristjan Sepp, Standards & Fact-Checking Lead. The desk assesses the claim, consults the original source material and, where necessary, contacts the article’s author or editor. For details on our team, see /our-team/.

We treat all reports seriously and without regard to the identity of the person making the report. Our review process is independent of commercial or editorial pressure.

Types of corrections

We use three categories of correction, depending on the nature and significance of the error:

  • Factual correction with note — Applied when a clear factual error is confirmed (e.g. a wrong date, name, statistic or quote). The article is corrected and a note is appended at the top or bottom stating what was wrong, what has been corrected, and the date of correction.
  • Clarification — Applied when the original text is technically accurate but could be misleading or ambiguous. A clarification explains the intended meaning without altering the factual record.
  • Update — Applied when new information becomes available after publication that materially changes the context or accuracy of the article. Updates are clearly labelled and dated, and the original text remains visible where possible.

Minor typographical or formatting errors that do not affect meaning are corrected without a note.

Timeframes

We aim to acknowledge receipt of a correction report within two working days. Our target is to resolve the majority of reports within five working days, though complex cases may take longer. If we require additional time, we will inform the person who reported the error.

Correction notes on articles

Every correction, clarification or update is recorded on the article itself. The note includes the date of the change and a brief explanation. For significant corrections, we may also publish a notice on our homepage or social media channels. Corrected articles remain accessible with their correction history visible.

Serious errors

Errors that raise questions about editorial integrity, legal liability or significant public interest are escalated to Maarika Tamm, Editor-in-Chief & Responsible Publisher. In such cases, we may issue a formal correction statement, retract the article, or publish a full explanation of the error and the steps taken to prevent recurrence.
